The competition is fierce and the flavors rich as award-winning pitmasters battle local barbeque grillers to produce the best that their secret recipes have to offer.

The Long Beach BBQ Festival is accepting entries into The Best in Southern California BBQ Cook-off. Contestants need to pre-register. Entries will be taken up to August 8, 2016 or until the BBQ Teams block is sold out.

Contest requires the teams to cook 4 meats (Chicken, Pork Ribs, Pork Shoulder/Butt, & Brisket) with an additional category option for BBQ Sauce. The cooking source should be of wood, wood pellets or charcoal. All meat must be inspected by KCBS representatives onsite before doing anything. KCBS Rules and regulations apply. A BBQ Team does NOT have to be a member of KCBS to enter the BBQ contest. However, if you are interested in becoming a KCBS BBQ team member you can apply here: KCBS Membership Application

This contest is eligible for the $10,000 American Royal World Championship — the best of the best in the competitive barbecue circuit and the prestigious $10,000 Jack Daniels World Championship. In addition, all KCBS teams who participate earn points towards the KCBS Team of the Year awards that are held each year at the KCBS annual banquet.

Entrants must submit six (6) portions of meat in an approved container. Containers will be provided by the Long Beach BBQ Festival. There will be a 28 KCBS certified judge panel.

BBQ Teams Cook’s meeting will be held at 5PM on Friday, August 19, 2016 in Judges Tent. BBQ Teams New Cook’s meeting will be held at 5:30PM on Friday, August 19, 2016 in Judges Tent.

BBQ Teams Meat Inspection and distribution of contest approved containers will conducted by KCBS representatives on Friday, August 19, 2016 between the hours of 10:30AM-4:30PM.

Saturday, August 20, 2016 BBQ Contest mandatory submission times (failure to submit at the designated times will result in disqualification from the contest.) are as follows:

Chicken (not poultry) — Saturday, Aug. 20th at 12NOON
Pork Ribs (must include bone) — Saturday, Aug. 20th at 12:30PM
Pork (shoulder or butt) — Saturday, Aug. 20th at 1PM
Brisket (NO corn beef) — Saturday, Aug. 20th at 1:30PM
BBQ Sauce (optional) — Saturday, Aug. 20th at 2:15PM

The Long Beach BBQ Festival BBQ Contest



The Long Beach BBQ Festival uses a blind judging system. Contestants will be competing in six categories: The Best in Southern California BBQ Chicken, Pork Ribs, Pork Shoulder/Butt, Brisket, BBQ Sauce (optional) and People’s Choice. Judging will be held on Saturday, August 20, 2016 and conclude with an award presentation AT 5PM. People’s Choice will be held on Sunday, August 21, 2016 and conclude with an award presentation.

First, second, third, fourth and fifth place winners will be announced for each category in additon to a Grand Champion and Grand Reserved, trophies with cash prizes will be awarded. The People’s Choice award will be presented to the three teams that receive the most votes from ticket holders during the competition event.

Judges check-in starts at 9:30AM on Saturday, August 20, 2016.

Judges meeting will be held at 10:30AM on Saturday, August 20, 2016.
